As a former language teacher myself, I’ve always been very particular about Dutch lessons and how languages should be taught. I knew exactly what I wanted, what I didn’t like, and how a course should be structured for students to achieve the best results. Traditional, old-school methods of teaching a language had long since lost their appeal to me and I wasn’t willing to spend my time or money on them. After a long search and several disappointing experiences, I finally discovered Koen’s Sociataal. I couldn’t be happier. The lessons themselves are excellent, but what really stands out is Koen’s involvement, the clear structure, the emphasis on speaking, and the student-led philosophy, which is all backed by scientific research as the most effective way to learn a language. Koen is an exceptionally talented teacher who truly understands how languages work and is genuinely passionate about both his craft and his students. I can only praise him and his lessons, I truly couldn’t have made a better choice. I wholeheartedly recommend Koen and Sociataal!

If you’re looking for a well thought out way to improve your Dutch, I highly recommend the SociaTaal! I love the structure of the courses, the self study modules are really well designed and in the lesson itself you can actually practice what you have learned. It’s a small group which gives you enough time to practice and get attention you need. On top of that, Koen is very helpful and supportive which in my opinion is very important in learning a new language!

De B1+ cursus was geweldige ervaring op alle vlakken. De lessen zijn duidelijk opgebouwd, motiverend en helpen me zichtbaar vooruit in spreken, schrijven en dagelijkse communicatie. De docent Koen zorgt voor een fijne en ondersteunende sfeer, waardoor ook moeilijke onderwerpen goed te volgen zijn. De groepsdynamiek is sterk en stimulerend. Kortom, de cursus scoort uitstekend op alle punten: kwaliteit, tempo, helderheid en zelfvertrouwen. Een echte aanrader voor iedereen die een solide B2-niveau wil bereiken.

Koen is an excellent teacher with really well-structured courses. I’m currently taking the Private Flex course, which is perfect for my busy schedule because I can learn at my own pace. I’ve also just been booked onto the group courses to dive deeper into the language, and I’m really looking forward to it. Koen is de beste! This is not a random Dutch-speaking person posing as a teacher and trying to make you learn a word or two. Koen approaches his lessons in a scientific and systematic way, the learning program is well-structured, and the course platform he built is top-notch. At the same time, the learning doesn't feel formal or boring. My original motivation to take the course was to prepare for the inburgeren exams, but I enjoyed the process so much that now I'm thinking of going to B1 and beyond.

Though I’ve been in the Netherlands for several years and already knew some Dutch, I always struggled to put words together when speaking. I needed a course that would help me refine my knowledge and build confidence. After taking Sociataal courses with Koen for the past few months, I finally feel comfortable speaking the language. The course provides an online platform that’s highly interactive and easy to follow, with weekly exercises you can do at your own pace. Each chapter includes videos that clearly explain the grammar concepts, and I found these digital materials far more engaging and effective than traditional textbooks. The group size is small (usually 5–6 people), and every lesson focuses on creative speaking rather than simply reading and completing exercises, as in many traditional courses. What I especially appreciate is that the teacher pays close attention to each student and goes the extra mile to help you improve where needed. If you’re frustrated with speaking Dutch and don’t know where to start, I highly recommend giving this course a try. You’ll not only make real progress, but also have a lot of fun with new people.

Great Dutch courses! I took the A2 course, for every course there is a space on a learning web portal with all the grammar, and tons of exercises for all language skills. After completing the exercise the students receive personalised feedback on their assignments on the same platform, very handy! The structure of the studying implies a lot of preparation before the lesson, students learn new grammar and vocabulary on their own and only discuss tricky parts during the lesson. This makes lessons very efficient and focused on practicing.

I took the A1+ course and by the end of that course, I already signed up for the next one. Koen has created a very well structured course that brings results. Taking Dutch classes at SociaTaal with Koen has been a really great experience! The courses are super straight forward to follow and filled with many real-world examples. They’re perfect for expats settling into the Netherlands or anyone just curious about learning Dutch. The pace of the course is thoughtfully managed which is nice for those balancing a job, children or anything else on one's plate. Koen creates a comfortable space where we can practice speaking, make mistakes, and genuinely enjoy the learning process. After three courses, I’m definitely continuing my Dutch lessons at SociaTaal. I've tried 2 other language schools since moving to the Netherlands and this one has been the best by far!

I have done the Nederlands level 4, it has been a very enriching experience in which I have been able to strengthen my level of Dutch in grammar, speaking, writing, reading and listening in a very interactive way. The platform is very easy to understand, it is not boring and it has a lot of information and exercises that really help you to learn. The virtual sessions are very entertaining, interactive in which you can learn a lot of vocabulary, practice speaking, listening and meet other people who are at the same level as you, which is great because you will never feel lost. I highly recommend doing the Social Taal Nederlands levels. It is an excellent way to learn. Koen is an excellent teacher, very attentive to all your doubts and always willing to help. His attitude is incredible and he knows your real needs when it comes to learning the language.
