Edited Review 09/30: This review is NOT about the tour and I will update again if I get to book a tour or further communication is received. Once I submitted the original review, Sean responded to the email I sent on 07/12 asking how to book the tours (today is 09/30). I tried to book a tour on the website, but there is zero availability from now through the end of time. I then sent an email on 06/23, then again on 07/12, a text message on 08/01, a text message on 08/19, a voicemail (for Sean) on 08/21 and a FaceBook message on 08/21.
The response I received was what the start of the season typically is and he will let me know if it starts any earlier and "they" have other jobs when they are not operating in the off season. In my opinion, this is not a reason to not respond to text messages or voicemails from potential customers.
Original review on 09/29: I will gladly update this review if I can get someone to respond. Over the past several months I have tried to book a tour, you can't on the website, I have emailed, sent texts, sent messages through Facebook and left voicemails and no one will get back to me.
I had the best time!! The experience was life altering. I surprised a friend of mine for her birthday and I ended up pleasantly surprised myself. Allison was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and her life experience is so relatable! She really showed such passion for mushing and love her dogs! Forest was my absolute favorite dog on the sled. He was absolutely hilarious 😂😂😂. He practically tried pulling by himself. Allison was able to teach us how to brake and share her story of how she made the right choice in moving to Alaska. I would recommend this on anyone's list of things to do on your bucket list. I will be booking again when my daughter comes to visit! Thank you so much for an amazing time.
Awesome experience from start to finish!
The owner and all of the dogs (44 of them) are friendly. We were allowed to hang around for a while after the ride, asked bunch of questions, had some snacks and hot drinks, all of which we appreciated so much.
We'll definitely come back if we get the chance to visit Anchorage again <3
Beckie at Dream Big Kennels was absolutely amazing! She was so welcoming and easy going. She answered all our questions and let us love on all of her dogs. I am truly grateful to watch these amazing dogs work and see the love and care that Beckie gives them! Hope to return in the future and look forward to seeing Beckie on the Iditarod trails in the future! Thank you!
It was a lot of fun. Becky, the owner, welcomed us and introduced us to her dogs. She has a beautiful yurt with warm clothes, jackets, mittens, hats, boots that we could borrow to stay warm. Becky's dogs were beautiful, healthy and happy. They could not wait to go out for a run. Great communication throughout the process.
What an absolutely outstanding morning. Greeted on arrival and kitted out in the perfect clothes for the ride. Alison was incredible with her commentary and conversation during my ride. Alison also has a well trained energetic team of dogs to make you glide across the snow. Perfect location and fantastic value for money. I highly recommend this operation for your dog sledding experience in anchorage! Would definitely do it again when I’m back.
What an amazing experience. Experienced “real” dog sledding, met amazing people who run the programs, met amazing dog teams, and played with puppies!!! My family learned a lot about the rigors of the Iditarod race from an actual Iditarod race finisher (Allison) and the hard work and love needed to develop and maintain dog sled teams. Did I mention puppies. My adult daughter loved the sledding but she would have enjoyed it as much just visiting with the puppies! We would gladly do it all over again. For visitors without any snow gear, no worries. Everything is provided to keep you warm and dry.
Our group of (4) adults had a fantastic time. Allison, the owner of Shenanigans Kennel and our guide, patiently and enthusiastically answered our many, many questions about the dogs and their lineage, training methods, dog sledding current culture, major players, and history, and personal questions about her specific dogs, business, and experience.
The Alaska Mushing School is a joint venture of a number of different trainers and racing groups. Dream Big Kennel (thanks Beckie and Bethany!), where we met up with Allison, provided excellent snow gear - pants, jackets, gloves, shoes - but allowed us to wear our own if it seemed suitable. They also had snacks and warm drinks available.
We were sledding on a 19F day (HOT for Alaska and the dogs) and Allison stopped often to let the dogs cool down. This also gave us a chance to swap places as a group - front sled, back sled, standing or sitting. It was awesome, and I couldn't recommend the activity more for those wanting to learn and experience this very Alaskan activity.
WOW! Incredible experience…..totally worth the cost! Will do this again…..and again! Our guide,
Allison, was an expert musher with exceptional skill and knowledge. Allison’s dogs were phenomenal….so well trained…..so well loved and cared for. The snowy trail was spectacular and we had a great view of Denali! Fabulous experience!
I took my 75 year old Mother visiting from Seattle and she had an amazing once in a lifetime experience. I highly recommend Alaska Mushing School for a taste of dog sledding. It was amazing! I am HOOKED and absolutely loved every minute. Becky was our musher and very knowledgeable and friendly. She and the pups took us on a nice long ride through beautiful Alaskan scenery. We thoroughly enjoyed the pups and I will be back I'm sure.
